SUNSTEAD

The SUNSTEAD™ is a dual-channel, high-voltage tube preamp and overdrive developed in collaboration with Torsten Kinsella of GIAA.

Designed for indie rock, post-rock, and shoegaze, the circuit is based on classic British alternative-rock preamps and was tuned to Torsten’s rig and playing style.

Channel I covers a wide gain range, from moody cleans to gritty, harmonically complex overdrive. Channel II has a different character, with more upper-mid presence and higher gain, ranging from crunchy overdrive to dense, fuzzy distortion. Together, the two channels cover everything from lightly driven textures to heavily saturated rhythm and lead sounds.

Each channel has independent Gain and Volume controls, making it easy to set up two contrasting sounds at matched or deliberately different levels. A passive 3-band EQ shapes the overall frequency response, while a side-mounted Tone Cut switch adapts the pedal for different setups. In the down position, it rolls off the top end and lowers the output level for running into the front of an amplifier. In the up position, it provides the full frequency range and maximum output level for driving an FX return, power amp, or cabinet simulator.

An external switching jack (3.5 mm TRS) allows remote control of channel selection and bypass via an external switcher, making the SUNSTEAD easy to integrate into larger pedalboards and switching systems.

Two vacuum tubes operate at full plate voltage, providing the natural compression and feel of a real tube amp. 

Power is supplied by the included AC/DC adapter or any 12V DC, 500 mA pedalboard power supply. If needed, two isolated 12V outputs can be combined with a current-doubling cable.
